We have puppies ready to go to their new homes now,
We have a brand new litter just born and are currently taking deposits on those. They will be ready to go around Halloween, and another litter due in September!
Please see our "Puppies" page!
Should you find you are interested in one of our babies please send me an email and attach to it a copy of my Application for Adoption.
Although we live in such a remote area, please don't count us out as your potential breeders. We would be happy to make arrangements to meet you with your puppy to enable you to have a pleasant experience.
We live a couple hours back on a winding road and the dogs get sick when traveling unless they are being cradled and held. So we like to offer to meet up with you so that the puppy has a happy, healthy disposition upon first meeting rather than arriving to you in a crate and scared and worried.
This ensures a smooth transaction as the puppy learns his new people.
Plan for success!
Puppies Puppies Puppies is what we do!
I am a puppy buyer too. I know your experiences when shopping for a baby. I know how difficult it can be finding an honest breeder and receiving the quality you were hoping for while shopping. Look no further! If I don't have what you want there is a good chance I know another breeder who does have it. I work with many honorable breeders whom I can recommend for you.
I have hand selected each and every one of my dogs, weeding out genetic issues, health issues, and temperment issues for you.
I am very picky when it comes to adding a new dog into my breeding program. They are of the highest quality as it is my desire to produce the highest quality pups. Some of my stock came from Thailand decendents. One from Ohio, and another from Idaho. Two came from Texas. I look high and low for certain features. I hope to produce a certain look, faces to die for with nice cobby bodies. Sizes ranging from small to standards. My breeding dogs are again all in the process of being AKC DNA'd .
Its a process.
I have spent thousands of dollars on my breeding dogs. Multiple times. Each time I am hopeful for the new addition. Many have not made the cut. Some had health issues. Some times other breeders produce puppies they think are up to par but possess undesireable traits. Time and again I have paid the big price for the Breeding Dog only to find he was not what I was looking for.
What happens to these dogs? I find a nice home for them with a family who had been wanting a nice lap dog. Most people wont even see the faults I see when I look at a dog. And so to them they are blessed with a free life long Companion Dog and I am on my quest again.
This is what your Breeder is for. I know the AKC Standard, I know what Shih Tzu features are good and which ones are faults. I am aware of their heath issues. I have a good eye for a good dog these days. I have learned the lessons and endured the heartache, lost the money and suffered the grief hopefully so you wont have to.
Many of the dogs I invested in worked out great. They were great investments, beautiful health, temperment, and quality. Some of whom now a days have been spayed or neutered and are our pets. Their descendants still in my lines, in my program today. I am creating for me the perffection I once failed to find out there. No they are not all perfect, I'm not saying that. Just like any other Shih Tzu Breeder we have the occasional umbelical hernia or pinched noses or something. But these are traits that are very commonly found in flat faced breeds. It is to be expected and isnt a serious health concern.
Each and every year Home Grown Shih Tzu puppies improve in quality, conformity, and standard. We are producing some of the finest Shih Tzu around and very proud of it. We are making a name for ourselves. Just this year we had customers calling from as far away as Italy interested in our pups.
This breeding business began as just a passion and a hobby of mine. But it has grown with time and effort and I cant begin to tell you just how proud I am of my breeding girls and boys and the gorgeous pampered pets they produce!
As we all know Shih Tzu come in many sizes and color combinations.
The AKC guideline for a Shih Tzu is that it be between 9-16 lbs. Even a 16 lb Shih Tzu will produce a tiny Imperial Shih Tzu on occasion. Below 9 lbs at maturity is considered an Imperial. The largest Shih Tzu are still lap dogs.
We here at Home Grown Shih Tzu produce all sizes and colors. My momma's are all AKC Standards. They give me a special little Imperial now and again and their prices are a bit higher due to the rarity and the extra care needed to raise these little ones and keep them safe and healthy.
Have a look around the place, get acquainted with the ladies, let me know what color, sex and size you are interested in and don't be afraid to contact me to be placed on my 'No Obligation' waiting list.
Prices should be based on the parents, the size, and coloring. Some colors combinations are rarer and harder to come by.
My prices are based solely on size. There are two prices. One for the Standard or larger size and one for the Imperial.
I find my prices very reasonable comparitively for Shih Tzu's in California.
I have seen them listed as high as $5000.
I have had other breeders get angry with me when I sell mine for $750. They encourage me to raise the prices to maintain unity among us and ensure the value of the Shih Tzu dosn't drop.
I wouldn't buy a dog for $5000. And I wouldn't expect anyone else to do so either.
These puppies are free of genetic issues, they are socialized properly and long for human touch and time. They want nothing more than to be your companion. Contact me regarding how you can make one of our puppies be your next life long pet.
Payment plans are available.
Help me help you make your puppy dreams come true!
Thanks! ~ Alisa
My dogs all began as pets.
They are Companion Dogs. They NEED your Companionship.
Please learn about the Shih Tzu breed before you decide to purchase. This should be a forever choice. These little babies cannot tolerate being removed from their people.
They have been bred for years and years to provide you with comfort and to gain comfort from being in their presence. This is not the dog for you if you plan on taking him or her jogging. This is not the dog for you if you are impatient and angry regarding potty training. And this is not the dog for you if you must leave the dog home alone all day in a back yard or a crate.
